Airtable Wiz #2: Automate with Zapier

How to use Zapier for quick automation

Use Case #2 Cover

Intro

Welcome to Airtable Wiz use-case series, where we’re showcasing real life products using Airtable-Stack.

This is not a guide or tutorial, but an overview of a product created using the Airtable. If you like what you see, read until the end to learn more.

The Pain

I use Airtable to store all my contacts, including waiting lists, memberships, events, etc.

So, I want to automate the process of transferring new contacts between Airtable and the email service providers (ESPs) that I used, so I don’t have to do it manually.

And the best way to do it is by using automation.

Here comes Zapier.

What is Zapier?

“Zapier is a web-based automation tool that allows users to connect their favourite apps and services to automate repetitive tasks. With Zapier, users can create what are known as “Zaps” to automatically perform actions in one app when a trigger occurs in another.

Zapier can save users a lot of time and effort by automating these types of tasks, allowing them to focus on more important work.” — ChatGPT (simplified)

What Zapier can do that Airtable Automations can’t?

I’ll start with Airtable Automations. It can only be done within Airtable, and the integration is very limited. For example, you can do simple tasks like sending emails, tweets, FB posts, and a few more.

Zapier on the other hand, has loads of integrations, and not just with Airtable.

Airtable + Zapier = 💜

With Airtable and Zapier combo, you can do a lot of things beyond the simplest tasks.

But I won’t bore you with the details. Read on for the use cases that I’ve done throughout the years below.

My Zaps

I’ve been using Pory.io a lot, and they make the Airtable form look good.

Airtable → Loops

Since I’m using Loops as my main ESP, I used below Zap to automatically send new contacts from Airtable to Loops.

Loops Zap

Revue (RIP) → Loops

I used to use Revue since it can be embedded into our Twitter Profile, but sadly…

So, I used the below Zap to do the same as above.

Didn’t manage to get the screenshot of the Zap as it’s already been removed.😭

Other Integrations

I’ve used these Zaps before in my previous projects, both personal and for clients.

Check them out below. It’s self-explanatory.

Thoughts

I’m just touching the surface of using Zapier as your friendly automation tool.

It’s good enough for everyday business needs. Check out their examples page here.

When you think you’ve mastered Zapier or think it’s not robust enough to meet your needs, head over to Make aka Integromat. Now, that’s a beast!
